Hydrogen Gas for Appliances

" The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has commissioned Hy4Heat to establish if it is technically possible, safe and convenient to replace methane with hydrogen in residential and commercial buildings and gas appliances.

• 80% of UK homes use natural gas (methane)

• When used for heating and cooking this releases heat, water and carbon dioxide

• Hydrogen, when converted to heat releases water and NO carbon dioxide

An important element of the Hy4Heat programme is developing domestic appliances that can be used with hydrogen gas: fires, boilers and cookers. BEIS are looking to appoint contractors to develop, manufacture and test domestic appliances (cookers, fires and boilers) for use with hydrogen gas.

Register interest by emailing Hy4Heat@arup.com to receive more information and attend an event on Fri, 15 June 2018 at BEIS Conference Centre, 1 Victoria Street London SW1H 0EP."
