Commercial Catering Products in the Spotlight

1. Tell us about how your business got started.
As two experienced and seasoned operators in the supply chain and group account arena, with collectively over sixty years experience, we identified a gap in the market to support both recognised and up and coming manufacturers to grow and establish their business with distributors and gain specifications within end user groups and then drive the business back through the distributor network.

2. What do you love most about the foodservice equipment industry?
Well, having both spent all our working lives in the business, there are many factors that contribute to what we love about our industry. From Rob’s point of view, his love affair began from his early days in Catering College, the opportunity of operating his own restaurant, then honing his operational skills further within Forte, to working with some great manufacturers. Similar story to myself starting off with one of the leading supply chain distributors at the time back in 1980 to working with and representing leading manufacturers and the opportunities that presented to us. We are both people focused and love the close-knit community of the UK catering industry. It just gets in your blood and drives your passion even further.

3. What is the biggest challenge for your business right now?
Having started our business in the pandemic and managing the situation, the unprecedented demand which followed and now we would have to say it’s the unknown due to market conditions and overall challenges the country is experiencing within the economy and the consequences of Brexit and new legislations.

4. What are the drawing factors for joining FEA?
To be able to draw on the knowledge and technical expertise of the association with regards to regulations and compliance. To know that we have a voice representing us and highlighting certain issues and pushing for legislation within government circles. To be part of an organisation that has the best interest of the Catering industry at heart, both operationally and from a manufacturers point of view.

5. Anything else you’d like to add?
Through our years initially with CESA and now the FEA, we have always acknowledged the important role the association has played within the industry, laying foundations and guidelines for manufacturers and operators alike, to improving overall standards across many disciplines. It is also a great opportunity to network with our peers and new colleagues joining the industry.
