Background information on the recruitment
In response to the recommendations from the Independent Panel on Technical Education, the government has proposed organising technical education into 15 routes, each providing training for highly skilled occupational areas such as engineering and manufacturing, digital and construction.
For each route of the new technical education, we will be recruiting panels of professionals (previously known as ‘employer panels’).  These panels would be responsible for developing standards for specific occupations and providing advice and recommendations on wider qualification content.
This is an exciting opportunity to help deliver a flagship Government policy with frontline impact.  The ambition is to develop a technical education option that will prepare individuals for skilled employment with employers sitting at the heart of the system.  We are looking for professionals with direct experience in occupations relevant to the routes who are willing to commit their time and expertise in one of the following roles:
Panel members - who will collectively be responsible for developing the standards for specific technical occupations by outlining the key skills, knowledge and behaviours that employees need to become fully competent.  These panels will be groups made up of industry professionals who are working in, and with current expertise in, the relevant occupational area.
Panel chairs – who, in addition to the above, will be willing to lead the panel and facilitate the active participation of all panel members.
To note: you may have seen a recent recruitment exercise for route panels chairs.  The route panels will be standing committees within the Institute, one per Technical Education route. Their role is to identify gaps where there are currently no standards and to convene panels of professionals to develop any new standards required for a given route.  The route panels will also be responsible for signing off the standards and tech level content and qualifications that are developed for their respective route.
Whereas, the panels of professionals will be responsibility for developing the standards for specific technical occupations within a route. They will also contribute to the development of wider qualification content, including identifying how current standards can be enhanced for the purposes of a qualification and the core content that will be included across the route.

The panels of professionals will be formed and introduced gradually, so initially, we are looking to build a pool of interested individuals from which we would develop specific panels of professionals.  We envisage that the first panels will begin their work in March 2017.  We will be asking interested individuals to complete a ‘register of interest’ form explaining why they want to be involved in one of the panels.
