New Member Spotlight on The Publicity Works
The Publicity Works recently became a FEA member and were more than willing to tell us about why they made the decision to join us.
Tell us about how your business got started.
We set The Publicity Works here in Norfolk in 1990 – before that, founder Tim Morgan had been working in PR in London. He’s a Norfolk boy, so when twins Callum (who is all grown up now and works in the agency) and Kieran came along, and the family decided to move out of London, Norfolk was a natural fit. His previous career (in publishing) had given him contacts in the hospitality sector, so he focused on foodservice in the early stages of the business. While a lot of our work is in foodservice equipment, we also have experience in other areas, ranging from music to construction, including book publishers, charities, education and commercial laundries. That’s very useful for our foodservice equipment work, as it gives us different perspectives that we can bring to the table.
What do you love most about the foodservice equipment industry?
It’s just so inclusive – like a big family. It probably helps having been around it so long! Having said that, it’s varied, too. Always lots going on. Plus, there’s food, and we’re big fans of that!
What is the biggest challenge for your business right now?
For sure the economy. Belts are tightening all round. Having said that, we’re investing in new processes and systems – the most obvious being our new website (publicityworks.biz). Mind you, PR is always changing, so agencies like us need to be constantly reassessing what we do and how we do it, to ensure we’re giving the most effective service to clients.
What are the drawing factors for joining FEA?
Foodservice equipment is a major part of our work, so the opportunity to get closer to the FEA membership is the big draw. We’ve been working for FEA for many years, so we have lots of experience in just about every sector of the market. Obviously from a business point of view, we’re hoping that any members looking for our type of service will give us a shout!
Is there anything else that you’d like to add?
These are interesting times in terms of how digital marketing is revolutionising our industry. For example, video can instantly communicate a message in a variety of very different but accessible ways. We’ve become specialists in this field, and increasingly clients see video as an integral part of the full PR/social media package. The foodservice equipment industry is changing how it markets itself to emerging generations, and that offers exciting opportunities for all of us to uncover.
