With the nominations now open for the inaugural Catering Insight Awards, Catering Insight is giving you a run-down of what you should be looking for when deciding who to nominate.

The winners will be announced during the gala dinner on 9 December at the prestigious Hurlingham Club in central London.
The Catering Insight Awards will comprise 14 accolades covering the whole breadth of the UK catering equipment sector. The awards are essentially divided into two categories: awards recognising excellence in the dealer and distributor channel; and awards recognising innovation from manufacturers and suppliers.
SUPPLIER CATEGORIES
Supplier awards will showcase the innovation of manufacturers across the industry. The categories comprise:
Sustainability
The green agenda is amongst the top priorities of many a commercial kitchen project, and this award will highlight those catering equipment manufacturers and suppliers which are championing environmental product development and energy efficient products.
Service & Support
Once kit is sold, it is not the end of the manufacturer or supplier’s responsibilities to the distributor or end-user. This category will honour those companies which are investing seriously in after-sales and warranty support, and have delivered a superior service.
Light Equipment
From tableware to tupperware, food prep to thermometers, foodservice operations could not function without light equipment. This honour will reward a manufacturer who has created an innovative piece or range of light equipment which provides a step change for the industry.
Heavy Equipment, sponsored by Hotelympia
Heavy equipment is at the heart of commercial kitchens, be it in the form of cooking equipment, refrigerators, warewashers or more. The winner will be whichever company is judged to have produced the most innovative heavy duty appliance for sale through the distributor channel over the past year.

Business Development
The business development award will recognise manufacturers or suppliers which have significantly developed their marketing or sales channels, establishing and progressing strong relationships with dealers, as well as providing added support or market development initiatives.

DISTRIBUTOR CATEGORIES
Distributor awards will highlight distributors and dealers who have performed exceptionally over the past year.

Categories consist of:
Distributor of the Year – North of England, sponsored by Blue Seal
This distinction will be awarded to a catering equipment dealer based anywhere from the Midlands northwards in England which has shone over the past year. This could be due to going above and beyond the call of duty in terms of design, service and installation, or because of other commendable ways they have developed their business.
Distributor of the Year – South of England, sponsored by Hobart
The south of England is a busy market, right from the Cotswolds to East Anglia, and including the ever-competitive London market, and this award will honour a dealer that has excelled as a business or overcome challenges to design and install incredible commercial kitchens.

Distributor of the Year – Rest of the UK
Dealers in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will be recognised for the exemplary work they are carrying out in those regions, whether it is the supply and installation of equipment or a full-service commercial kitchen design.

Distributor of the Year – Project Management, sponsored by Falcon Foodservice Equipment
With the diverse challenges that distributors can face in designing and installing kitchens, it takes a special firm to balance all the spinning plates simultaneously – and to a first-class standard. This award will recognise the company that stands out for delivering a very special project.

This award is open to both specialist service companies and distributors that operate dedicated service businesses.
