Tell us about how your business got started.

Harfield started in 1961 as a trade moulder, originally making plastic parts for telephones. We soon evolved into manufacturing our own range of polycarbonate products for healthcare and catering. We were among the first UK moulders to work with polycarbonate and saw the opportunity to leverage its strength, clarity, safety, and value in light catering equipment.

What do you love most about the foodservice equipment industry?

The people. It is an industry built around helping customers, solving problems and supporting busy catering environments.

What is the biggest challenge for your business right now?

The biggest challenge is the level of uncertainty and cost pressure facing UK businesses. Changes to national insurance, business rates, and the minimum wage have increased costs across the supply chain, while delayed regulatory changes regarding food-contact materials have created confusion and additional pressure for manufacturers and customers alike.

What are the drawing factors for joining FEA?

FEA is the first industry organisation Harfield has joined. We were drawn by its influence with government, its ability to represent the sector collectively and the opportunities it creates for members to connect and support the wider industry.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Harfield brings 65 years of experience in light catering equipment, UK manufacturing and reusable tableware. We hope our membership will allow us to contribute positively to the industry and support the important work FEA does on behalf of its members.
