FEA, FCSI UK&I and CEDA work together on Embodied Carbon

The three leading UK associations come together on the subject of Embodied Carbon in commercial catering equipment

Embodied Carbon is a growing issue in the foodservice industry. There are no government regulations or obligations on how to measure and report on embodied carbon in commercial foodservice equipment. But there are lots of opinions about what the market should be doing, a number of options available - and plenty of conjecture.

On 4th April FEA, FCSI UK&I and CEDA came together to discuss guidance for the industry on embodied carbon. Pleasingly the three bodies are all engaging their respective members on the subject and are preparing information and support to help the industry navigate the options and turn challenges into opportunities. The bodies agreed upon some principles for their support to the sector:

  • Guidance should be produced free of charge, as well as be unbiased and free of commercial influence.
  • The bodies will share guidance between themselves ahead of publication and work towards consistency of message.
  • Each association remains steadfast in its commitment to an environmentally friendly commercial kitchen sector.

“It’s good to be talking to the FCSI and CEDA about the embodied carbon issue,” says John Cunningham, FEA Chief Executive. “Manufacturers, distributors and consultants have a common goal here and providing reliable, robust embodied carbon data really doesn’t have to cost the earth.”
