Edward (Eddie) Moffat, 1925 – 2024
FEA members will have been sad to hear the announcement from Moffat Catering Equipment (E&R Moffat Ltd) of the passing of their founder, Eddie Moffat. Following a short illness, he passed peacefully on 28th November.
Managing Director William Moffat said, “At the age of 99 we celebrate a life well lived. Even in his final days Eddie still took great pride and an active interest in all that was happening in the business. We are blessed to have worked with him over many years and will carry his ethos of hard work and endeavour with us as we continue to take Moffat forward into the future.”
Eddie was born in the town of Bonnybridge, serving his trade as a sheetmetal worker with Smith and Wellstood, before setting out on his own, founding E&R Moffat in October 1963.
Eddie was an industry stalwart and the company he founded remains a longstanding CESA/FEA member to this day. Eddie was awarded the CESA Outstanding Contribution to the Industry Award in 2012, “A reserved and unassuming man, it was an accolade he was immensely proud of,” said William.
Also in 2012, Eddie wrote a brief history of E&R Moffat’s early years – it’s a fascinating insight into the foodservice equipment industry in the 1960s, 70s and 80s.
FEA offers its condolences to William and the Moffat family, and to the team at E&R Moffat.
