New Member Spotlight on Bolsius

Tell us about how your business got started.

Bolsius was founded in 1870 in Schijndel (pronounced “Shine-del”), in the Netherlands, where our global headquarters remain today. We are the largest candle manufacturer in Europe, with a presence in the UK and Ireland for over 40 years. Bolsius is currently the No. 1 candle brand in UK hospitality and is proudly B Corp certified, committed to creating an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy that works for both people and the planet.

What do you love most about the foodservice equipment industry?

No two establishments are the same. Each seeks innovation, support, sustainability, future-proofing, problem-solving, and the ability to make a real impact. At Bolsius, we bring the magic of the flame to tabletops across this great industry, with a candle to suit every style of dining experience. 

What is the biggest challenge for your business right now?

In today’s challenging economic climate, high utility bills and rising interest rates have led consumers to be more selective about where they dine. Ratings and reviews now play a critical role in dining decisions, and ambience is a key influence—often before food quality and price are even considered.

Within ambience, real candlelight is the most powerful element of the guest experience, strongly associated with intimacy, romance, and luxury. Yet only around 20% of hospitality outlets currently have a candle on the table. Our ambition is simple: a candle on every table. The right ambience can increase customer spend by up to 10%, making candlelight not just atmospheric, but commercially impactful.

What are the drawing factors for joining FEA?

FEA is a highly respected organisation that we have admired for some time, so it is a pleasure to be joining as a member. Becoming part of such a well-regarded network was important to us, and I look forward to meeting fellow members, sharing ideas, gaining a deeper understanding of this fantastic marketplace, and working together to grow collectively.
