Celebrating Women in Hospitality at Hotelympia
As a member of CESA we would like to invite you to our Women in Hospitality day at Hotelympia on Thursday 8 March, International Women’s Day. We’ll be celebrating successes, addressing challenges, and focusing on opportunities for women in the hospitality industry. We’ll be showcasing both female and male champions, giving you the perfect opportunity to learn from, and connect with, leading industry figures.
ALESSANDRA ALONSO
Travel and tourism guru plus established women empowerment campaigner. Alessandra discusses how she came to be official curator for Women in Hospitality day.
“I’ve been around the hospitality industry for 20 years. In 2004 I co-founded my first women focussed venture as Shine and co-launched the Shine Awards, celebrating the unique skills and contribution that women, and those who support their career progression, bring to the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism industry in the UK.
TIME FOR CHANGE
According to the British Hospitality Association, approximately 60% of tourism and hospitality employees are women – but only 15% are in senior management positions. Today there are around 24,000 fewer women in management positions in the hospitality sector than there were in 2010. In 2015 women in our industry were, on average, paid 18% less than their male co-workers.
