Make UK National Manufacturing Day, September 26th 2024

Put the date in your diary - we look forward to sharing this great day.

  • National Manufacturing Day is taking place this year on 26th September
  • It’s a great opportunity to celebrate all that’s great in UK manufacturing
  • FEA is asking manufacturers to engage with their local community and bring a section into their business, perhaps a local school or college to show that skilled manufacturing is alive and well in the UK
  • FEA are coordinating our activity with lots of other manufacturing trade bodies, all supported by MakeUK

FEA are delighted to share with you details of the third National Manufacturing Day (NMD) which will take place on Thursday 26 September 2024. Industry trade body Make UK is spearheading the campaign and once again are inviting every manufacturing company across the UK to take part in this national day of celebration. The idea is simple – you just have to invite a section of the local community into your business. Showcasing first-hand the breadth of diverse and well-paid career opportunities on offer to either school, colleges, friends & family, local job seekers.

For Make UK and Manufacturers, this is an opportunity to showcase the diversity of a truly fascinating sector, the range of highly skilled jobs on offer and the amazing opportunities for reskilling and career development within manufacturing in the UK.

It’s really simple to sign up –  Get Involved | NMD 2023 (nationalmanufacturingday.org)

All you need to sign up is your company name, a simple description of what you do and a contact email – Make UK can help you work out the details of the event in the coming weeks. There are plenty resources and ideas already on a dedicated website to help with planning. Find out more here: Home | NMD 2024 (nationalmanufacturingday.org) They will be adding resources, and ideas on how to organise an event in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on the website.

Make UK will again partner with the government’s Department for Education which will publicise the events in all schools, colleges and training centres – the events will be easy to find using the postcode finder on the National Manufacturing Day website. The Department for Work and Pensions will also display the events in all job centres, while working with companies to arrange bespoke interviews on the day for specific vacancies you may have.

One hint from last year – invite your local schools and colleges as soon as possible so they can plan your visit into their activity schedules for the year, schools usually plan at least six months in advance. Here is a template letter to help you do this: Manufacturers Resources | NMD 2024 (nationalmanufacturingday.org)

How can you participate?

Manufacturers will participate in a number of ways, from a single tour to a full programme of events, with Make UK assisting every step of the journey.

Together, we will demonstrate the value of a manufacturing apprenticeship as an alternative route post school/college. National Manufacturing Day is a celebration of all of the industry’s sub-sectors including automotive, food and drink, aerospace, defence, chemical and pharma.

Last year, hundreds of businesses took part on the day and found the national celebration to be a wonderful recruitment tool to fill their vacancies and encourage new talent into the sector.
